Ways to Wellbeing

By Peter Shepherd

Last week Nicole and I visited Alsace - a beautiful wine-growing region north-east of France. It has German place-names and language, having been a part of Germany before. We stayed in a self-catering house in the countryside, among the Vosges mountains and at the center of the famous vineyards. We had a great time visting all the incredibly pretty villages, still covered with flowers, and enjoying the local cuisine specialities - and the wine, which is exquisite. I've put a page online with some photos from the trip.

Besides the holiday, a second reason for visiting Alsace was to meet Pascal Helmbacher at Le Hohwald (telephone +33 3880 83520). Pascal is one of the foremost practitioners of the AtlasPROfilax® method, for realigning the Atlas - the first cervical vertebra - in its proper position, supporting the head. When out of place - as it is with almost everyone even before they are born - this condition is responsible for a large number of painful medical problems and illnesses. It's an expert but short and decisive once-in-a-lifetime treatment and both Nicole and I were astonished at the immediate positive effects - especially the feeling of freedom and 'aliveness' in the head, as for the first time the nervous, arterial and lymphatic systems have unobstructed communication throughout the body-mind, and the skeleton is aligned perfectly. The treatment is different and decidedly better than those (with a similar objective) obtainable from osteopaths and chiropractors, and I suspect you may not need their services again if you go this route... there are practitioners world-wide and more details in English here.

We had lots of evidence on our holiday of the simple wonder of life on Earth; forgetting all the complexities of the 'reasons why' for everything, and getting away from one's normal cocoon of familiarity, one encounters so many people, places, sensations and experiences that are exhilaratingly wonderful.

So You Know What You Want... Now What?

By Claudette Rowley

"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you,
till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then,
for it is just the place and time that the tide will turn." --Harriet Beecher Stowe

Most of my clients hire me because they want to answer the question "What's next?" They feel dissatisfied with their current job or life situation, but aren't sure what would satisfy them.

They make lots of wonderful and necessary internal changes - reshape their belief systems, overcome obstacles, gain clarity and craft a vision for the future. Then they hit "The Threshold" - that formidable mental canyon that appears once you've identified what you want and blocks you from taking those first steps toward making your dreams real.

Once you know what you want, you must cross The Threshold by taking action. For many people, this is an onerous stumbling block. A new host of fears rush in, making getting started about as easy as taking the first step onto a rickety swing bridge high above your mental canyon. It's common to experience:

  • A fear of failure combined with such thoughts as "What if I try out this vision and it doesn't work?"
  • A fear of success combined with such thoughts as "What if I bring this idea to fruition and my whole life changes?"
  • An amorphous, yet fierce resistance to the task at hand. The kind of resistance that ignites more creative procrastination. (Having exhausted more common forms of procrastination, I've been known to trim my toenails and clean my computer keyboard in an attempt to avoid a task. In fact, I think I see a few specks on my keyboard right now...)
Here's a hint: Dreams and ideas come to fruition through pragmatic action. It's true. You can envision, manifest, pray and meditate on the state of your cuticles until the cows come home. In fact, feel free to do this, but don't expect your dream to come true.

How, then, do you take action in the face of fear and resistance? Here are some concrete steps to take you through the mechanics of moving forward.

A - Acknowledge fear and take action anyway. Action is one of the best antidotes for fear and anxiety. Many people decide that feeling fear indicates an incorrect course of action. Nope - not true. (Note: At the threshold, it's not uncommon for you to feel attached to a specific outcome. Take action and stay unattached to the outcome. We can't predict the results of our actions; results may be immediate or may not trickle down to you until two months or two years later.)

C - Create a community of support. Support is critical. If I counted every time I've told a client "nobody who's successful and accomplished has done it alone," I'd be a very rich woman. If you don't have a supportive community, build one. Find online communities in your field or areas of interest, visit or join professional organizations, and take a look at your friends and family. Who could you reach out to and ask for support ? I recall a time when I needed extra support as I crossed that precarious mental swing bridge between one career and the next. So I asked for it. I identified two people who had room in their lives to give me extra support and I called them and asked for it. They were my lifeline during the few months I needed an extra boost.

T - Take charge. Be a leader in your own life. Set goals. Make decisions. Get clear about what you're trying to accomplish. Can't stand bookkeeping? Hire someone else to do it. Plan. Organize your time. You are the only person who can get yourself where you want to go.

I - Interview and research. If you're at the threshold, chances are you have a thirst for more information whether it's about your career transition into marine biology or your move to Tijuana. Schedule informational interviews. Set aside time to research online and at the library. Read books and magazines in your area of interest. Gathering concrete information is the name of the game.

O - Over-reward yourself. This is hard work! You must reward and motivate yourself. The next time you identify a reward for yourself, I challenge you to double it. If you haven't rewarded yourself yet, you MUST do so immediately, if not sooner. Here's why: living with mentality of abundance is going to take you much farther than a mentality of scarcity ever will.

N - Network, network, network. Each time you speak to someone about your dream or idea, make sure to utter the magic words, "Who else should I speak to?" or wording to that effect. To network is the act of building your physical connection to people. When you feel uncomfortable asking others for help, ask them how you can be helpful to them. In fact, no matter what, ask that anyway.
Standing at the edge of going after what you want can be the most challenging phase of transition. You're walking an unsteady swing bridge between where you are and where you want to be. The next time you find yourself on The Threshold between your idea and bringing it to fruition, take a deep breath and focus on this question, "What's my purpose right now?" The answer will take you where you need to go.

Infinite Being and the Ancient Hindu Trinity of Original Creation

By Owen Waters

The principle of Original Creation employs three aspects of Original Consciousness. It is stated as:

Creation = Thought + Feeling + Motion

Original Creation is Original Thought set into motion along with Original Feeling in order to propagate the universe as we know it.

Motion is the key aspect of Original Consciousness which brought the dance of Thought and Feeling into play, making all else in the universe possible. Infinite Being is the underlying state of all consciousness which projected itself into this Trinity of Original Creation.

In my recent study of ancient Hindu philosophy, I found that what Hindus call Brahman is exactly the original consciousness that I refer to as Infinite Being. I then went on to study the Hindu definitions of the Trinity which created the universe.

The Hindu Trinity consists of the principles called Brahma (that's Brahma without an 'n' on the end), Vishnu and Shiva. While these three principles have deity-like names, Hindus are well aware that they represent principles of original consciousness and not person-like deities. However, in order to describe the many characteristics of these facets of original consciousness, they are given names and then extensive and poetic descriptions of their many attributes.

Basically, the traditional attributes of the Hindu Trinity are summarized as being represented by the principles of Creation, Preservation and Destruction. So, Brahma is the aspect of the underlying Brahman which brings forth creation. Vishnu is the aspect that preserves and sustains the universe. Shiva dances unceasingly, bringing motion to the universe.

Defining Shiva as that which brings destruction probably originated as a yin-yang type of viewpoint, as a counterbalance to Brahma's function of creation. So, if you imagine creation and destruction as positive and negative counterbalances, then the neutral preservative quality of Vishnu is situated in between the two extremes.

I see the Trinity from a slightly different viewpoint, with Brahma as a Father-God archetype, Vishnu as a preservative Mother-God archetype, and Shiva as the motion which makes the expression of the universe possible. In this viewpoint, Shiva brings, not destruction, but life through his eternal dance of motion.

Yet another way to view the Original Trinity is to see it as being represented by the ancient sound of Creation, the "A-U-M." Mystics in deep meditation have often "heard" this as the subtle sound which continually radiates from the Sun. This etheric, non-physical sound has the attributes of the sounds "A" (creative), "U" (preservative), and "M" (motion.)

Successful acts of conscious creation by humans follow exactly the same formula as Original Creation, with two essential modifications in order to suit the human sphere of manifestation. More on that at a later date!

Employment Test

How to match job applicants to appropriate positions...

Put about 100 bricks in some particular order in a closed room with an open window. Then send 2 or 3 candidates into the room and close the door. Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours. Then analyze the situation:

  1. If they are counting the bricks, put them in the accounting department.
  2. If they are recounting them, put them in auditing.
  3. If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks, put them in engineering.
  4. If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order, put them in planning.
  5. If they are throwing the bricks at each other, put them in operations.
  6. If they are sleeping, put them in security.
  7. If they have broken the bricks into pieces, put them in information technology.
  8. If they are sitting idle, put them in human resources.
  9. If they say they have tried different combinations, yet not a brick has been moved, put them in sales.
  10. If they have already left for the day, put them in marketing.
  11. If they are staring out of the window, put them in strategic planning.
  12. If they are talking to each other, and not a single brick has been moved, congratulate them and put them in top management.
  13. Finally, if they have surrounded themselves with bricks in such a way that they can neither be seen nor heard from, put them in Congress.

Do You Suffer from Performance Anxiety?

By Charlie Badenhop

When you're performing at a level that's disappointing, don't you wind up feeling you need to make an important change in your thinking that you don't know how to orchestrate?

Recently I had a client with a fear of public speaking come to me for a phone coaching session. I relate this story to you with his permission.

"Jim's" job requires him to give talks at various venues for publicity purposes. As a marketing executive Jim was highly successful. As a public speaker he was (in his own words) "a failure." He had already been to see a therapist and a voice coach to delve into "why this problem existed," and said such explorations had actually worsened his performance. Instead of "Why" I suggested we explore "How." Here's what transpired...

I asked Jim if he'd be willing to go through the first few paragraphs of a prepared speech that he'd given in the past. With a good deal of trepidation he agreed to do so. After he talked for about thirty seconds, he began to falter and I asked him to stop and tell me what he noticed in his body while talking. He said his mouth immediately went dry. So much so that he had trouble swallowing as he talked.

I asked him to bravely try again, but this time I wanted him to talk without looking at his notes, while instead giving all of his attention to the moisture content of his mouth. I explained that in order to do so, he would need to give up being concerned about the quality of his performance. This time Jim spoke for about a minute before faltering. I gently stopped him again and asked what he had noticed. He said his mouth was not nearly as dry as before, but he noticed he was blinking his eyes a great deal and still felt tense.

"Good to know you noticed some changes," I said. "This means you are learning."

For the next round I asked Jim to pay attention to the moisture content of his mouth, while also passively noticing his eyes. The results were pleasingly profound. This time after talking for about a minute he appeared to get into a flow, and his enjoyment and confidence became evident. After about three minutes I asked him to stop and again report on what he noticed. He related in an excited voice, that his mouth felt fine, his eyes blinked much less, and that at some point he spontaneously adjusted his posture to be more upright. He said, "When my posture changed 'on its own' I felt myself 'click into gear'. My goodness, how can doing something so simple lead to such a major change in my performance?!"

I related the following to him: "Usually, each time you unsuccessfully try to remedy a situation, your 'problem' seems to become larger. The larger you perceive your problem to be, the more energy you expend trying to 'fix it'. Instead of simply focusing on your task, you wind up focusing on what isn't working. Your thinking and judgments get in the way of your performance, because the solution you're searching for gets drowned out by your internal dialogue!"

A month later Jim called to touch base. He told me he had given four talks and that the results were highly gratifying. Jim pleasantly surprised himself and so can you:

  • Choose a task you don't feel competent at.
  • Notice how your body feels as you perform the task, without attempting to correct your performance.
  • Stay absorbed in non-judgmental awareness, and your body will correct itself, without any critique from "you."
Sound simple? It is. The more you learn to simplify the task at hand, the more you'll notice just how competent you truly are!

Solve Problems With Subconscious Concentration

By Emmanuel Segui

A lot of people say: "Problems! Nothing but problems, one after another!" You have known people whose viewpoint on life is expressed that way. They are the ones who scowl at the world and accuse it of producing problems for them, "one after another." They are the ones who look at problems as gloomy clouds hanging over their heads. I am sure that you know unhappy people like that, and you tend to sympathize with them.

On the other hand, some people say: "I've got just as many cares and problems as you have! I've got lots of problems, but I take care of them and they take care of me."

What's the difference that makes the difference? Just what is a problem? Boiled down to essentials, a problem is a question without an easily determined answer! Here's proof...

If you are faced with a question, and you find an answer, you have no problem. If you are faced with a question, and there is no apparent answer, you have a problem.

Incidentally, these two sentences give you the key to handling problems - any and all problems! Do you see the "key"? Take a guess; you'll probably hit it pretty close.

Do you think that anybody can go through life without coming face-to-face with questions that concern him? Of course not! Well, then, do you think that anyone is ever able to immediately find answers to every question that confronts him? Certainly not! So, it is only simple logic to assume that everybody is going to have problems and have them consistently.

Concentrate on answers
The gloomy person is concentrating on his problems, while the person who is relaxed and contented is concentrating on the answers to his problems! It's really as simple as that! This works because concentration on the answers to problems is the positive approach. When you apply positive action to finding the answers, you are "living well" with your problems. Furthermore, you put this positive technique into operation by starting the action with decision. This produces a "1-2-3" formula for making all problems good problems. You will see that there is nothing complex about this formula...

Step 1. Decide just what the problem is. Simplify it. Eliminate all the fuzzy negative issues that may have become attached to it. Every problem has one basic question, which is the core of it. Identify that core. As soon as you go into action in arriving at this decision, you have put a positive slant on the problem.

Failure to do this tends to let the question grow into unwieldy proportions. When this happens, inferiority complexes are often born of the distorted belief that there is no answer to a problem.

Step 2. After you have simplified the problem, decide what the best answer is. There is a best answer to every problem. Often there is a choice of answers, but only one of them will be the best. Talk things over with yourself, even starting out by saying "I could do this, or this, or this." Assign those possible answers to your subconscious for help. But be assured that concentration on the best answer will reveal it to you.

Step 3. Once you have decided on the best answer, act on it! Remember what the "contented" person said: "I've got lots of problems, but I take care of them, and they take care of me." Obviously what he meant was that he acted in response to the positive best answers. As a result, he turned his problems into achievements instead of letting them defeat him.

Everyone's problems are his own responsibility. What a gloomy person needs is the cultivation of more faith in himself and the adoption of that "1-2-3" formula. This person himself is the key to whether problems are good or bad in his life, just as it is with you and with everybody else. Again, what is a problem? It's a question without an immediately apparent answer. But between the words "question" and "answer" is the person himself, and his action or lack of it.

You now know that you can find the best answers to problems by turning on this power of subconscious concentration. And now you know that you can do it, "1-2-3."

Guide for a Planned and Purposeful Life
Only 3 or 4 people, out of a hundred, set goals and live a purposeful life. If you want to turn your dreams into reality, there is no other way. Talking or wishing has never resolved any problem and never will. Action is what is important. Planning is what is essential. Having a purpose is the foundation.

Here are six guides, or six steps for a planned and purposeful life. These steps brings action, wisdom and enlightenment as you pursue your dreams.

First, do, positively, the creed that calls for action, performance, production and accomplishment. The new creed of living is the creed of "do". It is the opposite of the creed of "do not," the negative creed of rejection, procrastination, fear and failure. This positive creed says "do, rather than do not"; "do, rather than talk about it"; "do, rather than wish"; "do, rather than wait."

Second, deliberately condition your subconscious by what you do consciously. Wholeheartedly want the best outcomes from your actions. Let your subconscious have free reign in demonstrating its great power. The subconscious mind has the power to work for you and bring you all the good that you desire. It has the ability, when properly understood and used, to help you attract people, opportunities and money that will guarantee and maximize your chances of success.

Unleash the power of the subconscious mind by visualizing, affirming, feeling and doing. You then activate the law of attraction that will give you all the good that you desire according to your dominant thoughts.

Third, establish in your life a pattern of personal 'retreats' where you concentrate on your purpose in life, and look at your progress objectively.

Meditation is reflecting and receiving. Receiving inspiration, wisdom, health and spirituality.

Meditation is a continuous and profound contemplation on a subject or series of subjects of a deep nature.

Meditation brings a sense of fullness and wholeness. It is one of the best sources of tranquility available to human beings.

Prayer is meditation. The habit of meditation is the basis for all real knowledge

Fourth, seek guidance, and use all of the readily available resources to equip you with practical, usable knowledge of positive living. Coaches, mentors and good advice are everywhere. You can attract the best by the person you are, the person you want to be. People will help you find a solution when you're down. Mentors will believe in you when you doubt. A good friend will give you some advice that can transform the moment and recharge your batteries.

Fifth, keep your program full of positive, progressive action by having several goals in prospect, on a variety of subjects, at the same time. Setting goals will set you apart from the average person. Setting and achieving goals are not reserved to an elite. Yet, it seems that only 3 or 4 people out of a hundred properly select goals that will change their lives.

Sixth, take advantage of the full capacity of your subconscious to serve you by deliberately giving your inner mind positive projects to work on, even while you sleep. Your subconscious mind works 24/7. You can find in it an ally that will help you solve problems. Watch your thoughts, especially when you're about to sleep. Give your subconscious a problem to solve or some positive thoughts to work on during your night.

These six guides for a planned and purposeful life involve your whole you: your body (action), your spirit (meditation), your mind (conscious and subconscious) and your heart (emotions) to activate the Law of Attraction. This is the basis for the positive plan of your life!

The Vibrant Moment - Use Sound to Transform Fear into Joy

By Dr. Doris Jeanette

This month we are addressing the Power of Sound and Emotions. You can learn how to use sound to move though your anxieties and real fears.

Sound is a strong vibration that brought down the walls of Jericho. And Tesla, the genius who gave us alternating electrical currents in our walls (no, it was not Thomas Edison) had a little tiny vibrator that was capable of disintegrating the walls of NYC's strongest buildings. With enough vibrations, anything can disintegrate. This means that your defensive, hard, dense, tough, frozen energy in your body and energy field can disintegrate when you allow your feelings to naturally move through you.

This is the secret that explains how feeling your feelings dramatically improves your mental health, emotional health and physical health. Feeling your authentic feelings, quickly and efficiently, improves the energy flow in your body and energy field. This is because feelings emotions--energy in motion--naturally vibrate though you, clearing away any stagnant energy. When emotions move though your body they break up the heavy, dense energy that has collected from NOT FEELING your feelings and emotions all these years!

Sound is a power tool you can use to help you feel your feelings. Use sound to help you stay with yourself in the vibration of both anxiety and real fear. You need to learn the energy difference between real fear and anxiety in order to evolve and expand your consciousness. Real fear is essential for survival as a physical being on planet earth. To learn more about the energy difference between anxiety and real fear study, "A Natural Process for Opening the Heart - Your Emotional Guide to Self Esteem."

To transform the frozen energy in your human body into more flowing energy in your body and energy field you need to learn how to stay with the vibrations of both anxiety and real fear. The act of being with yourself in these vibrations naturally moves the yucky stuff out of your body. For example, hum your way though your real fear. Try it, it works. When you ride the wave of your real fear your emotional self naturally becomes full of joy and your cells fill up with vibrant, exciting energy. Voila, a vibrant moment to enjoy.

Feelings your authentic feelings is guaranteed to make you lighter, happier and healthier. Take your inner, emotional journey with an expert guide, "A Natural Process for Opening the Heart - Your Emotional Guide to Self Esteem." Available as tapes, CDs or ebook.
