Inner Guidance Training
How to Develop Inner Guidance
by Tuning in to Your Heart
Introduction
Our personality has many characters. We may be rebellious, knowledgeable,
critical etc. However many characters we have in our personality
none of them represent our true self. Unfortunately many of us are
caught up in our characters and think of them as who we are - I'm
a rebel, a know-all, a critic etc. Each of these characters has
a voice. For example our partner asks us to mow the lawn and our
rebellious voice comes forward and says in our head - there's no
way I'm going to mow that grass. Inner guidance comes from our true
self and transcends the various characters we carry in our mind
with their many confusing and contradictory voices.
For Example
Susan needed to do a presentation to 100 people. However she was
so frightened and anxious when speaking in public that it affected
her performance. Before giving talks she learned to visit the calm
place at the centre of her being. When in this place she could observe
her mind being critical and watch voices that said she was no good
and had nothing worthwhile to say. She also watched the fear that
arose with these voices. Then as she watched from the calm place
at the centre of her being, these negative voices began to loose
their power. In this calm place she was in touch with her intrinsic
worth as a person and was able to stand up and deliver a powerful
speech, spoken from the heart.
An Exercise in Developing Inner Guidance by Tuning in to Your
Heart
To tune in to inner guidance you need to imagine a place in your
heart that is perfectly calm. This place is so still that nothing
ever disturbs it. This place is where your true self resides. Next
time you are confused, angry or critical, you can take steps to
prevent your current mood from affecting your behaviour. At times
like this consciously imagine that you are within the calm place
deep in your heart, your true self. Once you are established there,
watch your various characters and their confusing array of inner
voices. Recognise that these voices are not coming from your true
self and are not inner guidance. Learn to observe your own mind
working. Continue to watch the reactions of your different characters
until their impact has dwindled, then contuinue to listen from the
heart for the still, small voice of your inner guidance. By learning
to visit the calm place at the centre of your being and observe
your mind with all its different characters, you cease to be controlled
by your negative thoughts and emotions and discover how to express
yourself from the heart through inner guidance.
