How to Use Inner Guidance
to Meet Other People's Needs
Introduction
If we want to have successful relationships it is essential that
we are sensitive to other people's needs. If we are aware of other's
needs then we can choose whether or not we would like to help meet
those needs. If we are unaware of other's needs then we appear distant,
remote and uncaring. If we want to be less obsessed with ourselves
and have a life filled with genuine friendships then it is essential
that we become sensitive to others.
For Example
Sara met an interesting person called Jennifer at a party. Sara
felt drawn to meet Jennifer again. Jennifer gave Sara her phone
number and suggested she ring. Taking her courage in her hands Sara
rang Jennifer and chated on the phone. The conversation revolved
around Sara and her life. Sara did not invite the Jennifer to speak
about her life. At the end of the conversation they agreed to meet
up for a coffee. Jennifer said she would ring Sara back with a date
and time that suited. She never rang back and the opportunity for
friendship was lost.
An Exercise in Using Inner Guidance to Meet Other People's Needs
When you are next in the company of a friend or marriage partner
focus OUT. Take all thought away from your self and become aware
of what the other person is doing and how they are feeling. While
focusing OUT tune into your intuition to see if there is anything
they need that would make their life a little easier, more comfortable
or complete. Offer to supply it. For example your friend sits in
a chair. You notice discomfort and tension in their body. Your intuition
prompts you offer them a cushion or a more comfortable chair. You
follow this prompting and your friend is surprised at how sensitive
you are to their needs. Take a day and practise during that day
at being more sensitive to others needs at home and at work. Meeting
other people's needs is an excellent antidote to being obsessed
with yourself and will help you make many new friends and improve
your relationship.
