Inner Guidance Training
How to Use Inner Guidance to Find the Right Career
Introduction
People often invest years of training early in life for a career
that is not their life's purpose. If we feel a gnawing discontent
at work, if we are looking forward to holidays as an escape from
work, if we are staying in the job only because of the salary, then
we have not found our life's purpose. Failure to recognise and engage
in work that is our life's purpose causes stress and a lack of fulfilment.
For Example
James qualified as a structural engineer when 25 years of age. In
his mid thirties he had become increasingly dissatisfied with his
working life. He confided to his wife that he felt drawn to work
as an osteopath. He found he was attracted to articles about osteopathy
and that he noticed and remembered where osteopathic practices were
located in the city. When at work James experienced stress in the
muscles across his shoulders and down his back. At weekends James
escaped from work to the golf course. He played on Saturday and
Sunday and began to stay at the club late to drink with his golfing
friends. This began to put real strain on his marriage. That summer
the family went on holiday to Turkey. During the second week of
the holiday James could not relax and enjoy himself because he was
dreading at the thought of returning to work.
An Exercise in Using Inner Guidance to Find the Right Career
Let your inner guidance suggest interests or hobbies that may develop
into a new and exciting career path. Sense where you are drawn to
and allow yourself to explore these new interests. For example if
you have always had a special love for flowers and think it might
be a new career, offer to be involved in arranging the flowers for
your local church. If you enjoy this activity consider taking your
new interest further by working in a florists on a Saturday. As
your interest develops follow inner promptings with action. You
might be surprised to find that in four years' time you have your
own flower shop!
