How to Use Inner Guidance
to Become More Generous
Introduction
We are not generous because we are reluctant to give. People often
associate generosity with giving money. This is true, however there
are many ways in which we can be generous. Just think of the number
of people in the world who need to be touched, moved and inspired.
There are many different professional services devoted to meeting
this need. You can help meet the needs of people starved of human
inspiration by sharing life's highs rather than its lows and by
being a purveyor of good news. Uplifting others is probably the
most important way to be generous. Giving of ourselves abundantly
and unreservedly in every way possible helps us tune to inner guidance
and find inner peace. It is in giving that we receive.
For Example
Richard had a person called Joe who helped him learn sound recording
skills on his home computer for a small fee. Richard was composing
an album using computer-generated sound. Eventually the project
was complete and Richard paid Joe his final fee. Because Joe had
not charged very much and had done a fine job, Richard gave him
a surprise gift of a CD writer and a restaurant voucher for Joe
and his wife. Joe was delighted and offered to use the CD writer
to back-up Richard's album. Two weeks later Richard's computer hard
disk crashed and he lost all the work on his computer. However to
his delight, he was able to retrieve his work from the CD Joe had
left behind.
An Exercise in Using Inner Guidance to Become More Generous
Replace the belief that you are lacking and do not have enough to
give, with the belief that you are a creative person with much joy
and abundance to give and share, even if you do not feel like this
at present. Adopt this new belief for just one day. Live this day
by listening to your new-found guidance to share the joy of life.
From this place of inner abundance, uplift the people around you
as and when you feel called to do so. If this brings up fear you
might like to take time out at some point in the day to express
these feelings. Notice how you feel as this day of generosity ends.
Did you feel freer, stronger and more powerful? Did you feel more
connected to others and to life? If you did, consider creating other
days of generosity, until being generous becomes completely natural.
